weekend preview - Sneaky weekend ahead!

Sneaky Sunrise returns to the races!

friday

Exuma - Moonee Valley Race 4 @ 7:45pm AEDT

  • Exuma heads to The Valley for a BM70 over 1000m tonight. It’s only a field of 7 and Exuma makes a sharp jump up in grade from the gutsy first up win at Werribee. This is clearly the hardest race that he’s had to contest to date, however, he is down in the weights and draws to get an economical run up on speed. The field is full of seasoned horses, and Big Me looks like the one to beat, with some good form around Oak Hill, who was a moral beaten at Moonee Valley last week. I expect Exuma to run well but I am not sure if he can win today.

saturday

Sneaky Sunrise - Flemington Race 9 @ 4:55pm AEDT

  • Sneaky Sunrise is set to go for the Listed Desirable Stakes over 1400m at Flemington. She returns to the races 224 days off the scene, which you could argue is a slight query. However, she’s had 3 strong trials, including a very sharp trial at Cranbourne over 1000m 2 weeks ago where she looked like she was ready to go.

  •
  • She has quality form from her last preparation, with horses such as Jenni’s Meadow, Henlein and Pisces, all of which are Group 1 standard. This field is very even, with Group 1 Thousand Guineas winner Another Prophet coming here 2nd up off a good pipe opener in the Group 3 Manfred. New Zealand raiders, Captured by Love and Kitty Flash also spark interest with their Group 1 form across the ditch. I think Sneaky Sunrise is a genuine top 3 chance.

Firebolt - Gold Coast Race 7 @ 5:44pm AEDT

  • Firebolt heads to a wide open Class 2 1400m event at Gold Coast. It is a large field and she’s drawn barrier 11. She was super first up off a break and was unlucky not to finish in the placings with an interference in the straight. That was over a very unsuitable trip, so the rise to 1400m this start has to be a positive. It’s a hard race to line up the form as there are a number of different races that these horses are coming from. Nonetheless, she will improve again with this run and will be peaking over a mile and further, but I think she can still run well here.
