weekend preview - Royal Ascot & royal donald

Friday (AEST)

Lightening Mann - Race 2 royal ascot - 12:05am AEST - Barrier 19 - Edward greatrex - 2400m

The one we’ve all been waiting for. The MyRacehorse army get to experience what it’s like to have a runner at the most prestigious carnival in the world. Lightening Mann goes around in the King George V Stakes over 2400m. He’s drawn wide, but the last two winners have drawn wide and there’s about 800m of straight racing before the first bend. He comes into this race after finishing 2nd to Sadaad in the London Gold Cup, who is now the favourite for the Golden Gates Stakes. The start prior he beat a key rival Merchant, and now meets that horse better at the weights. My only query is the 2400m at this point in his prep, but nonetheless, I hope that thousands of MyRacehorse fans are cheering him home tonight.

Saturday

karasmatic - Donald race 3 @ 12:41pm AEST - barrier 4 - brad rawiller - 1356m

Karasmatic looks to knock off his maiden at Donald on Saturday. He comes to this race after finishing 2nd at $1.20 to Our Wishbone, who has gone on to win a subsequent BM64 at Ballarat by almost 5 lengths. That form is good enough to win a Donald maiden, and I would be disappointed if he isn’t winning here.

High Tempo - donald race 5 @ 1:51pm AEST - Barrier 6 - Lachlan king - 1628m

High Tempo also heads to Donald on Saturday and is 3rd up after 2 very luckless 2nds this preparation. She was super last start, and arguably would’ve won if she had got clear at the right time. If she can carry that form over here, then she should be extremely hard to beat. Barrier 6 is great, and hopefully she’ll be positioned off the fence and charging late to score.

Moon Jewel - Gold coast race 4 @ 2:54pm AEST - barrier 11 - nozi tomizawa - 1000m

Great to see Moon Jewel back at the races, following a disappointing effort at Doomben in the Bill Carter Stakes. She drops back to 1000m here, which is probably a little unsuitable for a big horse like her. However, she has been kept nice and fresh for this. I would imagine that she will settle in the back half of the field and be doing her best work late!

Sunday

bold strike - cranbourne race 7 @ 3:50pm AEST - barrier 10 - luke cartwright - 1300m

Bold strike drops slightly back in grade to contest a 0-64 handicap at Cranbourne on Sunday. He didn’t have all the favours last start, with the race being controlled and dictated by the leader, who went at an incredibly slow tempo. Hopefully, there is a little bit more speed on here. The stable has a high opinion of Bold Strike, and off his Ararat run, he should have the scope to be winning a race like this.
