Saturday
Neptunite - Flemington race 8 @ 4:00pm - Barrier 16 - Jett stanley - 2000m
Very excited to see Neptunite step up to metro Saturday grade, following an impressive victory at Mornington last start. He did it quite tough in the lead last start, with several key rivals providing pressure during the mid stages of the event. Despite this, he was able to kick away with the quickest last 600m figure of the race, and walk away with a 4.75L win. Admittedly, the day at Mornington was very much a leaders dominant day, so the margin may be slightly deceiving. Nonetheless, he deserves a shot at this grade on Saturday. He’s drawn a wide gate, however, he has 400m to cross the field along the back straight, so it shouldn’t be too much of an issue. If he can dictate terms in the race, he should be right in the finish, but given the predicted speed battle, I’m not overly confident that he gets that.
Firebolt - gold coast race 5 @ 3:29pm - barrier 15 - michael hellyer - 1800m
Firebolt heads to the Gold Coast on the quick backup, following a grinding 3rd in testing conditions at Sunshine Coast last Friday. She is the sort of mare that likes the grind, which was evident last start when she was off-the-bit a long way from home. Sectionally, the race rated quite well, with the race finishing 2.2L better than the class. In comparison to all of her other starts, she has produced her best rating last start, which is interesting. She heads to this race hard fit, and if she can get another grinding test, she should be in the finish.
Sunday
sapphire rose - wyong race 1 @ 12:05pm - barrier 4 - ash morgan - 1100m
Very excited to see Sapphire Rose get to the races for the first time in her career. She comes to this race off two impressive trials, both on tracks that probably weren’t suitable for her (too wet). We’re praying that Wyong experiences some warm weather between now and Sunday, so that she can race on a Soft 5 or Good 4. The track is currently rated as a Soft 7, so it should hopefully keep improving with no rain predicted. No matter what, she will benefit from the experience and we expect her to be super competitive at this level.
