Moonee Valley Race 1: Bur Dubai (9) - Beau Mertens - 57kgs
Bur Dubai heads back to the races after a much-improved showing over 2000m at Flemington last start, where he placed behind the very in-form Revelare. He now steps up to 2500m, which will be of further benefit to him. The last time he raced over this distance, he won by 9.5L at Chester, so he absolutely loves this distance.
He heads to the tight-turning Moonee Valley track for the first time, however, it isn’t too dissimilar to some of the tracks he was running at in the UK so I’m not worried about that.
He comes up against Steel Run, who also comes out of the 2000m race at Flemington, where he rattled home in some fast sectionals and was first up on that occasion. I think it’s going to be a two horse race between Bur and Steel Run, and they will be fighting out the finish. However, I feel that we haven’t yet seen Bur Dubai’s best because he hasn’t reached a true staying trip in Australia yet, and we get that tomorrow.

Moone Valley Race 7: Sneaky Sunrise (7) - Luke Currie - 56kgs
Sneaky Sunrise heads back to the races after a placing behind the super-impressive, Treasurethe Moment in the Kewney Stakes at Flemington. She stays at the 1600m here which I think is a positive, and she heads to The Valley for the first time in her career. Dan Stackhouse jumps off, but Luke Currie comes on, which is sort of a like-for-like scenario.
If you look at her last start, she was off the bit early and just grinded away to the line to run 3rd. I think the reason she didn’t show such a big turn of foot is because she was still only 2nd up (off 224 days), and she went from a race that was 12 lengths slower than standard first up, to 1600m second up that was run quicker than the All Star Mile on the same day. So I think out of that Kewney Stakes race, she probably has the most scope of improvement.
The final thing I’ll add is that she now gets a 3kg weight swing on Too Darn Lizzie, which bodes incredibly well. If she can find a position in running and the track isn’t too favoured to leaders, she’s a genuine Top 2 chance.
