weekend preview - let's keep the momentum going!

friday

Charcoals - Cranbourne - race 5: 7:15pm - barrier 6 (billy egan)

Great to see this son of Too Darn Hot back at the races following a short spell. He has had 2 trials leading into this, both of which have been quite stylish. There is some good speed in this race with 1, 2, 6 and 11 all likely to roll forward. I envisage that Billy Egan will ride Charcoals quietly. That being said, Cranbourne can occasionally be a bit of a leaders track, so I wouldn’t want him settling too far back. I expect that Charcoals will be hitting the line strongly and looks a genuine top 3 chance

saturday

Starmae - scone - race 4: 12:50pm - barrier 2 (Dylan gibbons)

Starmae has had two runs so far this preparation. Her first up run had a lot of merit, leading on a relatively fast tempo and just being found out late. Second-up she had absolutely no luck, being buried between horses and not getting clear until there was 100m to go. She now comes to Scone 3rd up and back in grade, and should be peaking. I think she is the best chance of ours this weekend.

lauding - flemington - race 9: 4:43pm - barrier 14 (ben melham)

Lauding comes to Flemington second up after a visually disappointing run at The Valley last start. Admittedly, he didn’t appreciate the wet track at all, so I’m happy to be somewhat forgiving of that run. With the expected rain in Melbourne on Saturday, I am a little worried about the track being a bit wet for Lauding, so for that reason, I can’t give him a winning chance.

anaballistic - belmont - race 2: 12:39pm local time - barrier 7 (lucy fiore)

Anaballistic heads here 3rd up after a narrow defeat last start at Ascot. She ran her race before it even started last start; she was very warm in the yard and was getting herself worked up. The start prior she was excellent, and if she can replicate that form, I think she can be super competitive here. Although there are a few horses here with some stakes form that I am worried about, but I think a Top 4 chance is reasonable for Anaballistic.

pyrois - gold coast - race 7: 3:39pm - barrier 2 (brandon lerena)

Pyrois heads to the poly track at Gold Coast after the meeting at Sunshine Coast was abandoned last week. He has had one run on the poly when he was with the McEvoys, however, this will be a much weaker class than that. He has been working well at home and if he can replicate his first run with Lee, he should be very hard to beat. Drawn well, and Brandon Lerena sticks.
