Weekend Review

MRH Runners

A busy weekend for the MyRacehorse army, culminating in a Sunday victory for the exciting, Charming Nic!

Charcoals @ Cranbourne - 5th

A nice first-up run for this son of Too Darn Hot on Friday night. We knew that the 1000m distance was going to be a bit sharp for him, especially with the speed battle that occurred in the race. It was a tough day to settle worse than midfield, given that it was a Good 3. That was evident by the first 4 horses in the running finishing in the top 4. Nonetheless, Charcoals hit the line well and will look to head to a 1100m or 1200m next start, where I envisage that he will be hard to beat.

Starmae @ Scone - 7th

She was a little bit disappointing on Saturday. Dylan Gibbons settled her in the perfect position up on speed, but when the pressure came, she just didn’t let down as good as her rivals. With no obvious excuse, I would suggest that a run in midweek city class is next on her agenda, where she can benefit from a small step back in grade again.

Anaballistic @ Belmont - 6th

Anaballistic ran well despite not threatening the placegetters. She was ridden cold, which we know she enjoys, and at the top of the straight, she looked to be travelling well. However, given the step up in class and the ability of the winner, she probably just didn’t have the class on Saturday. A drop back to 3yo fillies grade looks very suitable for her at her next start.

Lauding @ Flemington - 14th

Too bad to be true for Lauding on Saturday, unfortunately. It was a nightmare day weather-wise, with the track being rated as a Heavy 8 by the time Lauding’s race rolled around. He settled towards the rear of the field and just never looked likely. He needs to find some drier tracks for us to see his best. I’m not hopping off him just yet.

Pyrois @ Gold Coast - 2nd

Pyrois was the pick of the MRH runs on Saturday. He was so close to chasing down the tearaway leader on Saturday. He got trapped for room at a key stage, which probably allowed the leader to get too far clear for Pyrois to run him down. However, he savaged the line and finished his preparation on a high. He has had 5 runs with Lee, and it has been a successful move so far. He will now head to the paddock for a spell!

Charming nic salutes at the sunny coast!!!

This was a great win to cap off the weekend. He was dealt a fairly tough hand, carrying 63kgs, racing keenly for the majority of the race and leading the whole way, but he well and truly got the job done to come away with a 1.3L win. This should give him some tremendous confidence for the rest of the preparation, and it’s exciting to know that he is still doing some things wrong, yet still able to come away with victories. Onwards and upwards for this son of Nicconi.
