Named after Spendthrift’s founder, Wayne O was purchased out of the 2018 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Sale for $750,000 as a yearling colt. By leading stallion Into Mischief, this big, striking, athletic prospect checked all of the boxes physically and mentally that led our team to enter into a partnership with Spendthrift.
Wayne O broke his maiden third out at Keeneland Race Course in October of 2019. After an additional six starts on the track, the MyRacehorse Team and Agave Racing–our partners in Wayne O–came to the difficult, but proper decision, to retire the 4-year-old, following several non-competitive efforts. The good news was that Wayne O was in perfect physical condition and retired sound.
MRH and Agave Racing found the ideal place for the gelding to begin his retirement journey, at the well-respected and beautiful Copper Meadows Horse Park in Ramona, CA. Both MRH and Agave Racing have a great relationship with the Hoffos family, the owners and operators of Copper Meadows, and couldn’t think of a better spot for Wayne O to begin the next chapter. The Hoffos family have spent decades in the business and are very supportive of Thoroughbred aftercare and have re-homed many off-the-track Thoroughbreds while giving them the opportunity to enjoy a forever home and offer many a second career in the world of eventing.
We are forever grateful for Wayne O’s time in the MyRacehorse stable, especially the thrill he provided us all with by winning at Keeneland, where the prestige is so high it’s no small feat to reach the winner’s circle.
For the next several months following Wayne O’s arrival at Copper Meadows, he was given some time to decompress, hang out, enjoy being a horse and enjoy the SoCal sunshine.
Unfortunately, Wayne O pulled a shoe in his only United States Eventing Association sanctioned event in 2022, where he stepped on the clip of his shoe and had to be pulled up. After a short recovery period, Wayne O was leased out by an individual who much preferred the lessons and training part of Eventing over the actual competitions. Wayne O has since returned to competition. We are incredibly excited for Wayne O to enter the Eventing competition circuit once again.
