The Cranbourne trials were riddled with MyRacehorse colours yesterday morning, with three horses stepping out for trials. All 3 horses are now ready to head to the races after some impressive displays on the track. All trials are included above and feature in order of their heat (Charcoals, Sneaky Sunrise & Chicago King)
Charcoals – Heat 11 over 800m – Trial Time: 47.27
What a perfect tune up trial for Charcoals. We knew that he would be quite forward given that he’s already had a run this preparation, but this was effortless. He was under a grip for the entire trial and showed a really nice cruising speed to finish 3rd.
The track was in the soft range for the trials, and he seemed to absolutely relish the cut in the ground. Whilst there were no notable names in the trial, the time of 47.27 was the 5th quickest 800m trial out of 10, producing a faster time than 2024 Everest competitor, Growing Empire and regular Group 1 sprinter, Estriella. He is ready to head back to the races off that effort, and we can’t wait to see him progress through the grades this time in.
Sneaky Sunrise – Heat 15 over 1000m – Trial Time 57.79
She’s back in a big way this filly. This was her 3rd trial for the prep and she was super impressive. She settled in a forward of midfield position and Daniel Stackhouse just gave her a little niggle in the straight, and she responded beautifully. She finished 2nd in the trial behind Exuberance, who we suspect to be a key rival for Sneaky this preparation.
This was the 2nd quickest 1000m trial for the morning. Sneaky is now all set to head to the races on the 15th of February at Flemington, where she will tackle the 1400m Desirable Stakes.

Chicago King – Heat 18 over 1200m – Trial Time 1:14.15
He came here to get his barrier certificate to return to the races. He got it. I thought he trialled super. He still has a tendency to get worked up inside the gates, but once he’s out, he was off and gone. He led up the trial and stayed in the lead all the way to the line.
It was the 2nd quickest of 3 1200m trials of the morning, including a very handy trial from Group 1 performer Place Du Carrousel. Handy Graeme Begg trained galloper, Cilacap, was in 3rd, he was last seen winning a $150k race in December by 2.5 lengths. Chicago King is now locked and loaded for the races off that.
