From the first crop of one of the most highly regarded stallions in the world, Sixtythreecaliber is a 2019 daughter of Gun Runner acquired for $250,000 by MyRacehorse and Spendthrift Farm in 2020 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
Sixtythreecaliber’s debut came in March of her 3-year-old season at Fair Grounds, where she finished sixth in a 5 1/2-furlong sprint. It did prove to be a major learning experience that she put to good use only five weeks later in her second start when stretching out to a two-turn distance. She showcased her will, talent, and competitive spirit to break her maiden impressively at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Horses don’t often get passed by horses on each side and come back to win, but that’s exactly what our daughter of Gun Runner did, and it was at that moment that we knew we had a serious racehorse.
Sixtythreecaliber went on to achieve a series of victories, including her first stakes win in the Seneca Overnight S. at 11-1, and then she proved the doubters wrong once more by winning the prestigious G3 Comely S. at the same 11-1 odds.
After two disappointing results in the G3 Houston Ladies Classic over a muddy track, and in her Grade 1 debut in the La Troienne S., she responded with a trio of solid performances, including a Grade 3 placing in the Shawnee S. and a thrilling win at “The Spa.”
At that point, she had earned another chance at earning Grade 1 black-type and took on some of the top racemares in the country including Clairiere, Nest, Idiomatic, and Secret Oath. The competition in both of those stakes races proved to be too tough and it was decided that she had done enough on the racetrack and it was time for her to start her well-deserved career as a broodmare.
Sixtythreecaliber was sold for $400,000 at the Fasig-Tipton ‘Night of the Stars,’ where she was purchased by Spendthrift Farm and it was announced she would be bred to the #1 General Sire, Into Mischief.
This was a perfect way to cap off a productive career and end our journey with her at MyRacehorse. We’d like to extend a special thanks to Tom Amoss for not only bringing out the best in Sixtythreecaliber, but also his generosity with his time in terms of updates and owner interaction. It was a great ride and we are very excited to see what the future holds for Sixtythreecaliber’s foals!
