weekend preview - Action Packed Week!

Caulfield Heath Race 7 @4:30pm: Charming Nic (8) - Harry Coffey

  • The spotlight this week falls squarely on Charming Nic, the dominant 7-length winner last start, who returns to Caulfield tomorrow in Race 7 looking to back up his explosive performance.
  •
  • He teams up with Harry Coffey for the third time and currently heads the market as the race favourite. Drawn in barrier 8, expect him to be positive early, likely settling on-speed in a one-out, one-back position before the turn.
  •
  • His main danger appears to be Grinzinger Moon, who also races on speed and should ensure Charming Nic has something to reel in down the straight. While the Caulfield Heath track can pose a challenge from wider draws, Charming Nic has the class and momentum to make it two on the trot.
  •
  • There are still shares left this talented gelding, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to own a race favourite in town tomorrow!

Mornington Guineas - Sneaky Sunrise

  • Sneaky Sunrise returns to the track this Saturday in the Mornington Guineas, looking to bounce back after a luckless run in the G3 Alexandra Stakes at Moonee Valley four weeks ago. That effort was well below her usual standard, with the filly struggling to find her footing on a surface that was breaking up beneath her.
  •
  • She now steps back in grade and brings strong form into this race, including a competitive third in the G2 Kewney Stakes two starts ago. As the class runner of the field, she heads to Mornington with a point to prove, chasing her first win of the prep and aiming to launch into bigger targets later this campaign. A sharp jump out last Friday has kept her right on track, and the stable reports that she’s in great order.

Mornington Cup - Just Fine

  • A big assignment awaits Group 1 winner Just Fine, who was narrowly edged out last start in the G2 Neville Sellwood Stakes by the talented Ceolwulf, a horse who franked the form by finishing fifth in the G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes. This campaign, Just Fine has returned to something near his best, showing glimpses of the high-class galloper we know he is.
  •
  • He now steps into a suitable Listed race over 2400m, a trip he’s already proven effective at and gets a prime chance to break through for his first win of the prep. If he draws well, expect him to be positive early, take up the running, and control the tempo from the front. After going so close last time out, we’re excited to see him get his opportunity to land a deserved victory this weekend.
