futures part 1: fact or fiction?
This is a forecast, plenty will be wrong, but hopefully a few will be right. So, get involved via the polls and comments below and let us know if the targets outlined are “fact” or “fiction”.
Group 1 racing is on our doorstep with the running of the CF Orr stakes this Saturday at Caulfield. There is no better time to look into the crystal ball of potential MyRacehorse runners that may have a “speculative” grand final. This is a forecast, plenty will be wrong, but hopefully a few will be right. So, you tell us whether the targets outlined are “fact” or “fiction” and therefore worth following in futures markets.
willydoit
- The 3YO gelding by Tarzino, has taken the racing world by storm. Arguably, could be undefeated, but has made some serious noise winning his last three races and building a proverbial picket fence over 1400m, 1600m and 1600m. Bred to stay, being by a Derby winner and sire of an Oaks and Derby winner.
- His dam, WILLIAMETTE, by champion stallion MORE THAN READY, is out of a Group 1 Brisbane Cup winner, Portland Singa whose record includes 8 wins from 1250m – 3200m. His wins to date have been impressive, he is raw and still learning his craft. Based on all the information we have at our disposal, his best racing will come as he steps out over 2000m and beyond, and as he further furnishes in his development.

APOCALYPTIC
The exciting 2YO filly by Blue Diamond winner, and Golden Slipper producing champion stallion – Extreme Choice. Apocalyptic, is regally bred, with stakes performers, Subedar, Remedies, Geist and Testimonial all running through her family. On debut, Apocalyptic was green from the gates, and then was driving through peak hour traffic on the West Gate down the straight with no luck whatsoever. Her run has understandably turned heads as a good thing beaten. The form has been proper franked with the trifecta of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic all coming out of her debut field. After a quick let up, Apocalyptic is now preparing for an Autumn Carnival to remember, where she could be aiming at some of our most prestigious 2YO races.

Sneaky Sunrise
The progressive filly by The Autumn Sun will kick off at Flemington on the 15th of February in the Listed Desirable Stakes over 1400m. If she can pick up from where she left off after her exciting debut campaign which culminated in a stakes placing, the world is her oyster at 3YO fillies grade over the coming month. Sneaky relaxes well in her races and looks to be a typical middle distance style runner. I’d expect her to be at her best over 1600m but could certainly stretch up to 2000m. The ATC Oaks at 2400m, may be beyond her capabilities but her class can take this filly to the winners stall on her day.
- MyRacehorse Target Predictions:
- Australian Guineas (1600m)
- Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m)
- Australasian (SA) Oaks (2000m)

Bear On The Loose
Is he the forgotten horse of the stable? Bear On The Loose exploded with a victory in his Australian racing debut in June over 1800m on a heavy 8 track. Through the spring, this UK import showed that he could handle a firmer deck finishing 2nd and 4th in BM88’s before coming to the end of his campaign in the Group 3 Rosehill Cup. However, it is my firm view that the wetter… the better, when it comes to this wild bear on the hunt for stakes racing. Set to trial at Randwick next week, indicatively he will return to the races on Saturday 16 March. 2000m-2400m on heavy going will be when he’s at the peak of his powers, these are the profile of races I will be looking at to forecast some handy black type.
- MyRacehorse Target Predictions:
- G2 Neville Selwood Stakes (2000m),
- Q22 (2200m)

BUR DUBAI
This exciting import by Night of Thunder is set for his Australian racing debut this Saturday at Caulfield. The stable has made it clear, that he will continue to improve and furnish next campaign. With that in mind, I believe he will only have a few starts through the Autumn, get his rating up and prepare himself for an exciting Spring campaign. No futures have been outlined below for the Autumn, but some speculative targets for the Spring Carnival are apparent for Bur Dubai
