Race Recap

Soul Beam finished sixth beaten a little over two lengths in today’s third race at Del Mar. He was claimed for $32,000 out of the race by trainer Jorge Periban. Unfortunately Soul Beam keeps on finding ways to put himself in trouble in races. He cocked his head a few times looking at the crowd in the grandstand going around the first time, which caused him to float wide and be much further off the pace than we wanted him. When asked for his run on the far turn he gave a mild response but didn’t do much in mid-stretch. While no doubt a fan favorite around the barn Soul Beam has been a little bit more difficult to manage on track to maximize his performances. We wish his new connections well. The account reconciliation process will begin shortly and will be completed within the next 4-6 weeks.

Race Entry

Soul Beam has been entered in Wednesday’s 3rd race at Del Mar, a claiming $32,000 for three year olds and upward which have never won two races. The race will be going 1 mile on the turf course with a purse of $30,000. Soul Beam will break from post 6 with leading jockey Flavien Prat.  Post time is approximately 3:00pm.

Workout Report

Soul Beam had his final prep yesterday, July 27th for his upcoming race Wednesday, July 31st. He went 4 furlongs in 48.8 seconds with Brayan Pena. A big thumbs up from Pena when he was coming off the track. The video below is of Soul Beam galloping out after completing his work. Look for the big white face!

Soul Beam Workout

Soul Beam worked four furlongs in 48.8 seconds this morning. Battle Born Racing’s Nick Hines was there for the workout and told us that in his opinion this is Soul Beam’s best workout since claiming him last year. Let’s hope Soul Beam continues to progress as he points towards his next race on July 31st.

Update

Soul Beam is shipping down to the seaside oval today and seems to be doing very well since his tough loss 10 days ago. Trainer Genaro Vallejo feels that he can adjust the blinkers a bit and perhaps make a few other equipment changes for the next race that will hopefully make the difference. The tentative target race is on Wednesday 7/31, a Starter 50,000 non winners of two races going 1 mile on the turf. Soul Beam will likely have two works prior to the race, this Saturday (7/20), then the following Friday (7/26).
