Tufnel Goes to the Gate

Tufnel celebrated his actual 2-year-old birthday today with a trip to the starting gate and was an absolute pro on what was an unseasonably cold spring morning, which even served-up a touch of snow! He was very focused on the task at hand, never once hesitating while entering the gate. Once he was in there, he stood quietly before the gate crew manually opened the stalls, allowing him to walk out before picking up a jog and then moving on to a gallop. He will intermittently go to the gate and gradually begin doing more until he is ready to breeze from there and receive his gate card. All horses must receive a gate card prior to running, meaning they must first be approved by the head starter, which is why it is so important to focus on this type of schooling.

Tufnel Hit the Track

Tufnel went to the main track at Keeneland for the first time this morning and was very well behaved, as you can see in the attached video. He galloped in company, which is very standard for the babies when they ship in to the racetrack. Horses are herd animals, and the companionship helps them be comfortable and relaxed in a new environment or when doing something new.

Tufnel was ridden by a Godolphin Flying Start student, Vinzenz Schiergen, who is from Germany and has been working for trainer Brad Cox while the group is in their United States phase. Vinzenz is known to have a very good hand on a horse and had some wonderful words to say about our Into Mischief colt.

“I really liked Tufnel,” Vinzenz said. “He is a lovely big colt with a great stride. He is moving very easy and seems to enjoy what he is doing. He is quite new to Keeneland and he was obviously looking around a bit to see what’s going on, but as soon as we started to gallop on the track, he was focused on his job. I know it’s early, but I could imagine he can be a nice horse for the future.”

Tufnel Update

Tufnel went to the track at Keeneland for the first time this morning and did very well with his initial training session, which he completed with ease. We stopped by the barn to check in on him and really enjoyed seeing his out-going personality and inquisitiveness.

Tufnel Has Shipped!

Tufnel has departed from Paul Sharp’s farm and is en route to Kentucky to join Brad Cox’s stable at Keeneland. We are so excited for our Into Mischief colt to take the next steps in his training. We will follow up with an update once he has arrived at Keeneland.

Please enjoy these photos of Tufnel this morning.

Shipping on the Horizon for Tufnel!

With Tufnel being such a precocious horse, we are very excited to report that the colt will be shipping to trainer Brad Cox’s barn at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky., within the coming week. Farm trainer Paul Sharp is currently working on shipping arrangements. Once we have a confirmed shipping date, we will let his partners know.

Tufnel Workout Report

Tufnel worked an untimed 3-furlongs on Friday. Our 2-year-old colt worked in company down on the rail. Visually this was a very impressive work followed by a strong gallop out.
Trainer Paul Sharp predicted early on that Tufnel would be a very precocious horse which is now coming to fruition! Paul Sharp reported Tufnel will be one of his earlier 2-year-olds to ship out to their respective trainer. We will report back with an expected shipping timeline in the coming days.
