Sixtythreecaliber Race Overview

Sixtythreecaliber is making her second career start this afternoon in the eighth race at Horseshoe Indianapolis. She ran a decent race in her debut at Fair Grounds on March 23rd to finish sixth, and is looking to improve off of that experience today. Trainer Tom Amoss thought stretching out to two turns in this mile race would be of benefit for our 3-year-old filly. Her pedigree suggests this will suit her with her sire Gun Runner excelling in two-turn races and with her dam Classofsixtythree’s best races coming at a mile or longer.

Breaking from post position #6 in the nine-horse field with Edgar Morales aboard, Sixtythreecaliber should be able to improve from her debut and be placed in a nice position to close ground in the stretch. She gets a fast track here and easier competition than she had at the Fair Grounds, which should also benefit her.

Post time is approximately 6 p.m. ET. Sixtythreecaliber received morning line odds of 5-1. There are currently no scratches.

Best of luck to Sixtythreecaliber’s owners!

About the Competition (in post position order):

Forgotten Realm (9-5) is making her second start for trainer Brad Cox and trying dirt for the first time. She gets blinkers here, which should help her travel closer to the pace. Will have to overcome the rail position.

Verklimpt (4-1) stretches out after a fifth-place effort going six furlongs. She will be coming from off the pace, but should improve from experience and perform better here.

Diamonds N Denim (15-1), who gets blinkers off, was not competitive in either of her two career starts and looks outclassed here.

Beach Kitten (8-1) has struggled in the maiden special weight ranks this year, after being disqualified from winning a $40,000 maiden claiming at Oaklawn.

Winter Love (10-1) is stretching out for the first time and gets blinkers added. Apprentice rider Gage Holmes is aboard with a 10-pound weight allowance, which could afford the filly an advantage if she is up to the task.

Keen Ice Sight (15-1) ran on April 20th and wasn’t competitive in a MSW at five furlongs. This will be her 7th career start and there’s not much to recommend here.

Meagan’s Noel (10-1) debuted at Indiana last fall, where she was beat more than 15 lengths. Trainer Robert Dobbs is 25% with maidens in their second start.

Nile River Queen (3-1) has been racing at Turfway Park all winter on the synthetic surface and will be trying dirt for the first time, while stretching back out. The outside post should allow her to get a clean trip here.

Sixtythreecaliber Update

Horseshoe Indianapolis wrote an extra that will fit Sixtythreecaliber’s condition and is an ideal target race for our 3-year-old maiden. Entries will be taken today and once the racing office has drawn the races we will issue an update as to whether or not they used the race and if she got in.

Sixtythreecaliber Workout Report

Sixtythreecaliber had her second breeze over the Horseshoe Indianapolis track this morning. Cutting back to a half-mile breeze, the daughter of Gun Runner covered the ground in 49.20 seconds, according to trainer Tom Amoss’ assistant’s watch. Equibase reported the time as 50:00 seconds. She set fractions of 12:40, 24.80, 37:00, en route to 49.20, with a strong gallop out. We are looking for a two-turn race at Horseshoe Indianapolis for her next start.

Currently there are no races that jump off the page for Sixtythreecaliber in the Horseshoe Indianapolis condition book. However, we will continue to check with the racing office in hopes they write an extra that will fit her condition. We will be sure to report back once we have found a good spot for her to target.

Sixtythreecaliber Update

Since Sixtythreecaliber’s debut, trainer Tom Amoss feels that some softer competition would help her next time out, so she has relocated to Indiana Grand, which is likely where she will make her next start. We will follow up with an update next week once she has had time to settle into her new home.

Race Recap

A very educational career debut from Sixtythreecaliber in today’s 9th race at Fairgrounds where the daughter of Gun Runner ran on down the lane to finish 6th of 11 starters. Our filly broke mid-pack and it was clear from the get-go that she was not enjoying the kickback from the frontrunners as her head was way up in the air and she struggled to find good rhythm. As the field turned for home jockey James Graham was able to angle her out to the middle of the track where she began to run on and pick up the pace picking a few runners off. All in all, not a bad overall debut and Sixtythreecaliber appears to be the type of filly that will get a lot out of this education and appreciate a route of ground, something both trainer Tom Amoss and jockey James Graham echoed in their post-race interviews.
