Bernasconi Pre-Race Update

Hi Owners,

Click here to read a Race Preview for Bernasconi’s debut tomorrow.

Hawkes Racing have provided the following update on Bernasconi ahead of his run at Wyong.

“Bernasconi has been progressing nicely since his trial on Friday.

Tomorrow’s race at Wyong is a good place to kick off his preparation and he has drawn well at the barriers (4) which should provide him with the opportunity to have a nice run over the 1100 metres.

We have reservations regarding the heavy ground, however he managed to handle the wet surface in his trial and at this stage we are still planning on running him tomorrow.

It will be his first time at the races, so hopefully he handles the whole experience well and if he does everything right on the day, we feel it is a race he can win. The track is currently rated a Heavy 10 with 30mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours and 36mm over the past 7 days.”

Please note: Racing NSW Stewards will inspect the track at 6.30am tomorrow

Bernasconi Trial Report

Hi Owners,

Bernasconi put in another impressive performance today in his second trial. Jockey Brenton Avdulla didn’t push him too much, enabling him to have a nice educational trial while still having a nice hit out.

Attached above you can watch the trial replay, footage of Bernasconi pre-trial and a jockey report.

The stable was very satisfied with his performance and as a result he’s been nominated to debut in the 2YO Maiden Plate over 1100m next Thursday 12th May at Wyong.

Hawkes Racing Analysis

Bernasconi had his second barrier trial this morning at Rosehill, and we were very pleased with his effort.

The colt jumped well from the barriers and travelled nicely throughout the trial.
He was kept well balanced in the straight and worked through the line nicely to have an easy trial.

At this stage if the colt progresses well out of this morning’s outing, we will look to run him next Thursday 12th May at Wyong in the 2YO Maiden Plate over 1100m.

Brenton Avdulla has been booked to ride the colt in this race on Thursday. We will keep you advised.

Bernasconi Trial Acceptance

Hi Owners,

Bernasconi will be trialling this Friday at Rosehill over 900m. He is in Trial 7 at 9.30am. You can view the details above.

Race Nominations: QLD Winter Carnival

Today we received notification that Bernasconi has been nominated for the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Group 2) over 1400m at Eagle Farm on Saturday 28 May and the J.J. Atkins (Group 1) over 1600m at Eagle Farm on Saturday 11 June.

It’s still too early to tell whether Bernasconi will head down this path, or be at the level necessary, however the stable decided to enter him to ensure no opportunities are missed should he continue to progress and reach this level.

Bernasconi Trial Report

Hi Owners,

Bernasconi had a very successful trial this morning, finishing a close up 3rd. You can watch the replay above (Bernasconi is in the Spendthrift orange and purple silks with the black helmet).

He was marginally beaten by two Stakes performing 2YO’s including Metallicity (3rd in the Black Opal Stakes) and Sejardan (2nd in the G3 Breeders Plate) – this is a great effort.

Hawkes Racing have provided the below analysis:

Bernasconi had his first barrier trial back this preparation and handled the morning really well.

He jumped good from the barriers and travelled nicely in the lead throughout this heat.

The colt was kept well balanced by Brenton Avdulla and was allowed to work through the line nicely to run third.

Overall, we are pleased with where the colt is at, and we will continue to monitor his progress but at this stage he will barrier trial again next Friday 6th May and all going well he should then be ready to head to the races.

The colt is handling everything well in the early stages of his preparation and is showing a good attitude towards his work and we are happy with him.

We will keep you advised.
