Zestful Wins at Santa Anita

What a dominating performance by Zestful in today’s 8th race at Santa Anita. Zestful was hustled to the lead under jockey Heriberto Figueroa and went wire to wire winning by 7 lengths! Zestful earned $9,900 for his win (MyRacehorse owned 20 percent = $1,980 less jockey and trainer fees). Zestful was also claimed out of the race by trainer Jeff Metz for $8,000 (MyRacehorse receives 20 percent of the claiming price, $1,600). A final reconciliation of the Zestful account will be completed in the upcoming weeks and the net remaining funds in the account will be issued as dividends to your wallet. This was by far Zestful’s best performance to date after many poor efforts against tougher competition and we are thrilled he went out a winner with us. While we had higher hopes originally for Zestful based on his promising races early in his career, it just didn’t materialize for him at the higher levels of racing. Unfortunately when you find the right spot and its in this type of claiming race, your chances of getting claimed increase significantly. We wish Zestful and his new connections the best of luck moving forward. If you have any questions please contact a MyRacehorse representative or email us at support@myracehorse.com

Race Entry

Trainer Doug O’Neill has entered Zestful in Friday’s eighth race at Santa Anita. Jockey Heriberto Figueroa rides from post 2. This is a significant class drop as Zestful runs for an $8,000 claiming tag. Unfortunately Zestful has not been competitive in the higher levels of claiming races so he’s been dropped again to see if he fits at this level.

Race Recap

Different surface, same result unfortunately. Zestful pressed the paced under jockey Heriberto Figueroa and came up empty in the stretch when asked to press on. We’ll get together with Doug on figuring out a plan moving forward with Zestful. One potential option is to give him a try on the synthetic at Golden Gate. Looking back at his running lines from last year he was competitive on the synthetic on the east coast including a win. His one paced style may be a nice fit up North.

Zestful Update

If you’ve looked at Friday’s entries at Santa Anita you’ll see that Zestful has been entered in the 9th race. Doug is fairly certain that he will NOT run in this spot but entered to see how he trains this week and how he’d potentially fit here. We’ll keep you notified as we receive updates later this week.

Race Recap

Zestful just wasn’t competitive against this level today in the finale at Santa Anita. The addition of blinkers helped Zestful get into the race earlier than he previously had been, which was nice. However, when the field turned for home he didn’t possess another gear to go on with it. Guess would be a nice class drop would benefit him going forward.

Race Recap

Zestful ran another evenly one paced race today in the first race at Santa Anita. Jockey Drayden Van Dyke’s comments were that the horse needs to go longer and just doesn’t have the turn of foot necessary for the downhill turf course. We’ll see how he comes out of the race and look at the next condition book when it comes out.

Race Recap

Zestful ran a respectable third today in the 6th race at Del Mar today. He earned $6,480 for his finish. MyRacehorse owns 20 percent so earnings total $1,296 before jockey and trainer fees. As in his previous few races Zestful was pretty evenly paced throughout making a little bit of a middle move before flattening out again beaten about seven lengths by the top two finishers. He came out of the race fine and likely will target a race at Santa Anita after the holidays.
