Going to Vegas breezed a half-mile in 48.00 seconds this morning over the Santa Anita training track. The 5-year-old mare worked on the outside of stablemate Tournesol, and was always traveling the strongest of the two.
Jockey Mario Guiterrez, who was aboard Going to Vegas this morning, had to keep a strong hold as the duo hit the top of the stretch as Vegas was full of run. With three weeks still to go for the Grade 1 Gamely, trainer Richard Baltas did not want the mare to do more than this today, and this latest work indicates she is plenty fit and ready to go.
Going to Vegas breezed a half-mile in 48.60 seconds this morning over the Santa Anita training track. This was purely a maintenance work being that our next race target will come at the end of May. Vegas worked by herself, under jockey Abel Cedillo taking care of her business very professionally.
Trainer Richard Baltas will keep her on a steady tab over the coming weeks, likely keeping the next few works very similar to this one.
Going to Vegas had her first work this morning since her last race, breezing a half-mile in 48.60 seconds over the Santa Anita training track.
It was a very straightforward, solo maintenance work, under the guidance of jockey Diego Herrera. Trainer Richard Baltas thought she traveled excellent and did plenty for it only being her first work since her comeback effort.
Going to Vegas was nominated to next Saturday’s G3 Santa Ana, but Baltas prefers to give her additional time versus running off of a three-week turn around. With the Grade 1 Gamely on May 30th at Santa Anita being the main short-term target, we have three race possibilities to use as a prep; the G2 Royal Heroine (Santa Anita – April 9th), the G1 Jenny Wiley (Keeneland – April 16th), and the G3 Wilshire (Santa Anita – May 1st). As soon as race plans are firmed up, we will provide an additional update.
Today’s work will also be available on XBTV later this afternoon or tomorrow.
Going to Vegas had a much-improved breeze this morning, covering a half-mile over the Santa Anita training track in 49.40 seconds. Working in company with Glorious Spring from the Dan Blacker barn, Going to Vegas handled her business as expected.
Down the backstretch, she relaxed a few lengths off of her workmate under jockey Joe Bravo and gradually closed the gap as they went into the turn. Following the work, Bravo said, “She felt great, couldn’t have done it any easier.”
Given Going to Vegas missed her work last week, our race target of March 5th was definitely put into question. Being her first race back off of the layoff, we want to ensure she is as close to 100% from a fitness standpoint, especially as she will be returning in stakes company. Following this work, trainer Richard Baltas exuded confidence that she will be ready for the G2 Buena Vista.
Today’s work will also be available on XBTV later this afternoon.
Going to Vegas moved right on to an easy half-mile breeze in 49.80 seconds under jockey Flavien Prat this morning at Santa Anita.
This being only her second work and her first half-mile since returning to the barn, Prat guided the 5-year-old mare easily down the backstretch, not being in any hurry. Down the stretch, Vegas was allowed to finish up with some enthusiasm while still doing it well within herself.
Trainer Richard Baltas is pleased with where we stand with Going to Vegas at this stage, stating, “She is still working out some of the kinks, but she’s ahead of the game.”
Going to Vegas worked a half-mile in 48 seconds flat this morning over the Santa Anita main track. The 4-year-old filly was very keen to go early, as she cruised along under a tight hold from her exercise rider in this maintenance drill.
Going to Vegas is currently targeting the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes on May 31st at Santa Anita. She was also nominated for the Grade III Santa Barbara Stakes on May 8th but will most likely wait for the Gamely.
