Rock Chant Pre-Race Update

Hi Owners,

Above you can listen to an update on Rock Chant ahead of her race at Scone today.

She will jump from barrier 10 following several scratchings in the race. The conditions are still rather wet up in Sydney with the track now rating a heavy 8. She’s in really good order and we’re excited to see how she performs today.

She goes around in Race 2 at 12.25pm local.

Good luck to all Owners!

Thirteen Stripes Race Overview

Thirteen Stripes is looking for her second career win tomorrow in the sixth race at Churchill Downs for trainer Steve Asmussen. Our 4-year-old filly hit the board twice this winter and always shows up. We found a level that we believe she can be competitive in and with jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. in the irons, we are hopeful that Thirteen Stripes will make a good accounting of herself in what appears to be a fairly evenly matched field.

She will be breaking from post position 8 in the nine-horse field in the 6 1/2-furlong race. Post time is approximately 3:18 p.m. ET. She received morning line odds of 10/1.

About the Competition (in post position order):

A Paycheque Smile (6/1) broke her maiden two starts back. She had a troubled start in her last race, but stayed engaged and ran well. She should improve off of that experience and fits this race well in what will be her first start at Churchill Downs.

More Romance (10/1) hasn’t run since November, when she was claimed. She’s been consistently working since March and appears to be plenty fit for her return to the races. Trainer Marianne Scherer has a 20% win rate with horses first off the claim.

Four Dawn (4/1) makes her first start off the claim for trainer Mark Simms Jr. following finishing a second-place finish last time out after having the lead in the stretch. She is consistent enough to expect her to run well here.

Zmuda (4/1) graduated last time out at Oaklawn, where she was very game and showed that she can handle adversity. She faces winners for the first time here, but the light bulb seems to have come on for her.

High Fair (6/1) isn’t too consistent in her racing, but should like the distance here along with the slight class relief.

My Coralena (10/1) has been running well this year, and is a versatile competitor, as she runs her race whether she is on the lead or coming from behind.

Yes to Mischief (7/2), the ML favorite, appreciated the class drop last time out and could return to the winner’s circle here with a cutback in distance.

Ipsum Gratus (8/1) drops in class and cuts back to sprinting after a pair of allowance level races. She is plenty fit and trainer Tom Van Berg wins 22% of the time with horses going from route races to sprints.

Night Combat Update

We’re happy to report that Night Combat is doing very well and was able to pass the manure that was causing her discomfort while being treated at Equine Medical Center of Ocala. She has been discharged and returned to Bridlewood Farm. Meda Murphy at Bridlewood reported that the 2-year-old will resume training tomorrow. We will share a video update of her training this week.

Inalattetrouble Update

Upon further review and evaluation of Dr. Wes Sutter’s report on Inalattetrouble and discussions with both MRH resident veterinarian Dr. Jeffrey Berk and our partners at Spendthrift Farm, we have unanimously agreed that it would be best to no longer pursue a racing career for the filly with hopes that she can do her contributing to the industry as a broodmare. Accordingly, we have entered Inalattetrouble in the Fasig Tipton Digital Sale which runs from May 12-17th. Inalattetrouble has been catalogued as Hip 5 in the sale and final bids will close on the 17th. You can view a sale’s video of her here.

Unfortunately, a few factors worked against us in the decision to offer Inalattetrouble as an open filly (not in foal). First, we are at the backend of the breeding season and with the filly’s modest pedigree and no race record, getting her in foal would not add much value at all. Furthermore, by leaving her open, potential buyers have the opportunity to wait until next year and get Inalattetrouble on an early cycle for future breeding seasons, something that could be more attractive at this stage.

The Inalattetrouble series operates under a deferred debt arrangement where no training and care costs were raised as part of the initial offering. Instead, MRH partners portion of those expenses will be paid off with final sales proceeds. If the deferred debt exceeds the final sales price, the remaining balance will be forgiven. If the final sales price exceeds the deferred debt, the balance after the debt is repaid will be paid out pro-rata between MRH and Spendthrift Farm.

The deferred debt owed to Spendthrift Farm as of March 31, 2022 was $19,734.

After the sale is complete we will report back with the final sales amount and what it means for the closure of the Inalattetrouble series.
