A bit of a potential change up here. We recently spoke to trainer Eddie Truman about Moonless Sky and he told us that he still strongly believes that Moonless can still compete as a racehorse. After her last race jockey Drayden Van Dyke told Eddie that he felt that Moonless was about to explode and take the race before she bled. Eddie believes with the proper amount of lasix treatment she can still go on with her racing career. Eddie will work her on Wednesday morning at Santa Anita before taking the next step. If as a collective unit we are satisfied with Moonless workout we’ll consider sending her to a different racing jurisdiction where she can receive a full dose of lasix on race day versus the reduced amount in California. Updates to follow.

Play Time With Kianas Love

Here is Kiana’s Love getting her “play time” in this morning at the farm. She really seems to be enjoying this breather. In a joint decision with KM Racing we decided to give her another two weeks out on the farm before sending her to trainer Jonathan Wong at Golden Gate in mid October.

Wayne O took his first stroll around the Keeneland track this morning completing his five furlong work in 1:01.2. Assistant trainer Ronnie Werner told us Wayne O has settled in nicely and the work was exactly what they were looking for. We’ll talk with Steve and his team in regards to a next possible start here this week.

Workout Report

Carpe Vinum worked five furlongs in 1:03.6 out of the gate this morning at Santa Anita. This was Carpe Vinum’s second gate drill. She worked in company (outside) with a stablemate who already had multiple gate drills and Carpe Vinum under no urging completed this work like a true professional. Jockey Abel Cedillo was aboard for the work and told trainer Phil D’Amato afterwards “I think this will be a really nice filly, love that stride!” Carpe Vinum will come back with a tightened work next week before her expected debut on October 12th.

Easy Victory

Congratulations! A very nice performance by Nileist today winning the 6th race at Golden Gate, a claiming event for horses which have never won two races. Nileist looked like a winner every step of the way, stalking the easy soft fractions and taking the lead under mild urging at the top of the stretch. He was claimed out of the race for $6,250 but the claim was later voided due to Nileist foot issues, the same ones we’ve been updating you on throughout his career with us. His feet have obviously contributed to a number of factors in managing his career. First, while he gives his all each race, his upside is limited. While very competitive in the lower claiming conditions, he was beaten decently for a higher claim price last time at which no one submitted a claim tag for. Secondly, due to his condition Nileist is always going to need additional time in between his races, thereby limiting the amount of times he can race. All of the ownership groups involved with Nileist will discuss our next options moving forward and we’ll provide additional updates.
