Beautiful filly from the exciting first crop stallion, Audible. Headed to the barn of Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher.
MyRacehorse kicked off the prestigious 2022 Saratoga Sale by acquiring this yearling filly by first crop stallion Audible for $320,000. The excitement around the first crop of Audible’s progeny was prominent among the sale grounds with the average price of the Audible progeny coming in at a very healthy $283,000. This filly who will be trained by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher (who trained Audible) possessed a perfect balance of traits in her physical makeup and pedigree that were attractive to our team. She is very athletic, well made, and looks the part of a two-turn filly. From a pedigree standpoint she should possess speed through grand sire Into Mischief (the most influential stallion in today’s industry) and stamina through broodmare sire Dixie Union, the sire of Belmont Stakes winner Union Rags and a very prominent broodmare sire in recent years with horses like Mor Spirit and Mohaymen.
The filly will spend the next few months just maturing and will undergo the breaking process in late fall/early winter down in Ocala, FL. If everything goes according to schedule she’d be a candidate to join Todd’s Saratoga division in the Spring of 2023.
Breeding Insights
This filly’s sire was heard loud and clear during his racing career and now that Audible’s stellar-looking first crop of yearlings are hitting the sales’ ring, the stallion is poised to make some more noise.
On the racetrack, under the tutelage of Todd Pletcher, Audible flourished during solid 2-year-old and 3-year-old campaigns. He raced three times as a 2-year-old in the fall of 2017, finishing third first out and then winning a Maiden Special Weight and Allowance race, both at Aqueduct, before shipping to the Hall of Famer’s winter base at Palm Beach Downs in Florida. While there, the son of Into Mischief — a sire who needs no introduction — put himself squarely on the Kentucky Derby trail by winning, in succession, the Grade 2 Holy Bull and Grade 1 Florida Derby, by a combined margin of 8 1/2 lengths. Among the buzz horses at the 2018 Run for the Roses, Audible would finish third after a traffic-plagued trip which saw him missing out just by a head to secure second-place.
Pletcher was not satisfied with how the colt was training during the summer of his 3-year-old campaign, so Audible had a break at WinStar Farm in Kentucky. He returned to the races in the fall and won a listed stakes at Churchill Downs and then finished second in the Grade 3 Harlan’s Holiday at Gulfstream Park, before running in a pair of the world’s richest races, the Pegasus World Cup Invitational and the Dubai World Cup. He finished fifth in both of those starts, and the latter would become his final career start. He entered stud in 2020 at WinStar, which as part of a partnership, campaigned Audible during his racing career.
Pletcher, who has had countless high-quality equine athletes in his care, spoke with high praise for Audible, and had this to say about the colt while he was in his barn: “Audible’s Florida Derby showed the world how talented he was. He has a great disposition and mind with a beautiful physical. The best Into Mischief I have seen.”
Audible’s stunningly handsome looks, plus his elite race record, led him to being a hot commodity as a stallion; he was bred to more than 400 mares in his first two years at stud and the tempo remained high this year, his third season at WinStar. At the recently concluded Fasig-Tipton yearling sale in Saratoga Springs, NY, where this filly was acquired, six of his yearlings sold for a combined $1.7 million. You can hear more about Audible and his strong appeal as a young sire in this Thoroughbred Daily News video feature.
This filly also has a lovely pedigree on her dam’s side. Her mother, Patsy’s Kim, a daughter of Dixie Union, was unraced, but has produced a half-sibling to this filly, a colt who reached the winner’s circle at 2 and 3. Second dam Romy was a flat-out and durable runner, with nearly $700,000 earned on the racetrack in 15 wins from 51 starts which included multiple graded stakes victories in turf races. With the exception of the unraced Patsy’s Kim, Romy’s six other foals were each winners, and include multiple stakes winner My Ro.
